Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of witnessing my best friend say ‘I do’ and it was one of the most beautiful moments I’ve ever seen. It was almost overwhelming when I saw this picture…look at the expression on her face! Can you see the love and happiness in her eyes? Both of them looked at each other like they were magic the entire night. That’s the look of someone who’s found treasure- a best friend, a partner for life, a man who truly loves her unconditionally.
Patrice didn’t have a Prince Charming, sweep-you-off-your-feet story, though. She knew her husband for almost three years before she recognized him as the one. When she finally took an inventory of her preferences vs. priorities, she realized he had been there to comfort her and care for her all along- ready and willing to provide and protect her at all costs..she just hadn’t learned how to appreciate it yet. It truly takes growth to learn to appreciate the people who appreciate you. We always want a challenge, the guy who looks the part but may not act the part..the one who gives us butterflies but is never really consistent…YOU KNOW THE GUY I’M TALKING ABOUT!!
It takes a very mature woman to look past the superficial things and focus on the things that really matter. The guy you can depend on, who’s there for you when you need him is the one who will be by your side at your darkest times. He’s the one we have to learn to love. That doesn’t mean you should force anything, but it does mean you should be willing to compromise on a few things you ‘want’ to get what you really need.
Today, I’m more inspired than ever to redo my list and I want you to redo yours too! Really think about your wants vs your needs and figure out what type of partner would best complement your life. Once you’re clear on exactly what it takes to be truly happy, you’ll be prepared to recognize him when he shows up (he may already be around!)
ADD THIS TO YOUR TO-DO LIST FOR THE DAY: Make a priorities vs. preferences list of the things you want and the things you NEED.
Don’t get left behind, 2014 is OUR year for love!!! Let’s get right so we’ll recognize Mr. Right!
With SO Much LOVE,
